Stiles asks union leadership to meet (08/02/07)

NB 166

Feb. 7, 2008

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Following a meeting with a group of New Brunswick Community College students, Human Resources Minister Wally Stiles is asking the union leadership of CUPE 1251 to meet tomorrow (Feb. 8) and speak about the ongoing strike action and the hardship it is causing on students throughout the province.

Stiles has spoken with his colleagues - Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General John Foran, Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Ed Doherty and Social Development Minister Mary Schryer - as they have employees in CUPE 1251, which includes corrections officers, custodians at community colleges and human service counselors.

"While we continue to look at all options available to government, we understand how the strike has been especially stressful for students in our community college and I want to have a face-to-face meeting with the union to discuss the situation," Stiles said.

The minister will make his boardroom available at 10 a.m tomorrow, Feb. 8, and hopes to meet with CUPE leaders at that time.
